Matt and Audrey Pound

Visiting our dorm in Mae Jaem, new friends

Tiida & Pring, our college students grew up near this Karen village

On the way to church Sunday morning:  'Kuhn Matt, you can share this morning?'

Greetings from Thailand!  Life has been full, rapid, and adventurous lately and we are eager to share with you who so generously share with us!  We cannot express how much we enjoy working with Faithful Heart Foundation here in Thailand.

Get ready for a LOT of photos...

Apart from my goofy expression, really proud of these two high school graduates, ready to start college!

I had an incredible opportunity this last month.  I was asked to visit a dorm we support in Mae Jaem, about 2-3 hours drive into the mountains and through a national park.  One of our college students who loves motorcycles as much as I do, had talked with me about renting bikes and driving through the mountains together.  This seemed a great opportunity.  And was it ever!  Stunningly beautiful and ridiculously fun!  My face hurt from smiling so much.  And there were more adventures to come.

The beauty of Thailand!

I had a wonderful time with our dorm parents and the children in Mae Jaem.  We even got to go to the nearby Karen village and attend church with them.  These unique and beautiful shirts are handmade by the Karen people (see below) and the proper attire for church.  On the way to church, Pii Nid informed me they were expecting me to share a message.  I pleaded that I was not a pastor and therefore unaccustomed to impromptu sermons, but she insisted and I did the best I could.  It was a strange experience, because in the village not everyone understands Thai, and virtually no one understands English.

The very drastic contrast between life in the city and life in the village in Thailand always makes me pause.  We often speak of development as though it were an obvious, unquestionable good (like the word progress in the 19th century, before two World Wars).  Running water, electricity, quality education and healthcare, etc. are hard to argue with.  But for every gain, there is usually a corresponding loss.  There is more than a romantic appeal to the rural villages.  There is a simplicity and community feeling there, which is all the more remarkable for its absence in our society of tech and digital loneliness.  How difficult it is to know what is best for others or how to go about helping them!  It is a task to be approached with fear and trembling as well as compassion.

We continue to plug away at our Thai and are growing more and more capable of conversation.  It sill seems a long way toward the kind of casual intimacy that friendships are built on, but little by little mountains are conquered.

 What's on the horizon?

Please continue to pray for this opportunity to purchase land.
Thank you to all those of you who have pledged to help!  Approximately $20-27,000 has been pledged already (about 40% of the total needed).  We continue to pray that the Lord will make clear what we should do.  If you feel so led, please let me know if you would be interested in pledging to this project.

Please pray for our college students as they head off to a large youth camp in Bangkok in April.

Audrey, Ezra, and I are joining them for a few days at the beach after the camp.  For most of them, this is the first time they have ever flown on a plane or seen the ocean.  Thank you so much to those of you who give so faithfully!  What a blessing you are in ways you don't even know!  I have not seen our students this excited before.  Pray for good friendships to form and for all of us to grow as disciples of Jesus (and have a lot of fun!)

Please pray for our staff retreat in April.

Big thank you to Mill City Church and First Baptist Church for helping us take our house parents to a special Christian retreat center this year.  Pray for rest and refreshment for our parents; they are the heart of this ministry, and any of you who have children can imagine how difficult their job is.

Ezra is growing bigger and stronger all the time.  It is amazing to see him starting to sit on his own, learn to eat on his own, and even his eagerness to talk.  Hot season is here in force, and Mom and baby are getting some good pool time.  It is fun to see how the Thai people love babies.  Audrey says they are baby-crazy, and it is so much fun to have a baby in the neighborhood.  Please pray for all the porch-time she has with the ladies in our neighborhood.

Lovely Mama, and a tired baby

Ezra loves to swim

That cute face gets us every time!
Thank you for your love, support, friendship, and prayers!  More and more I am becoming convinced the purpose of every good thing is sharing.  You have been blessed, you bless us, and now we get to bless others.  And maybe even you are blessed by reading this?
The Circle of Blessing---where everyone gives and receives and no one loses.
Where can you bless someone this week?

Ezra and I checking out the land--beautiful views!

A couple representing another Christian foundation in Thailand approached Faithful Heart with an offer to sell a piece of land that had previously been purchased for ministry with tribal children.  This was not something we sought out, but they have offered to sell the land to us at less than half their actual cost, and less than a third of the current value.

It is 5.5 acres of land, just 20 minutes from our current office.
The price is $65,000 (USD).

It is an interesting opportunity because it could allow future possibilities for expanding Faithful Heart's ministries here in Thailand.  We could one day build a college dorm, or a ministry home, or an office space, as well as have land to farm with our families.

But it is also an intimidating prospect.  It would require a tremendous amount of work, money, and time to undertake such a big project.  But the opportunity is before us, and we are seeking God’s will in this matter.

Is this something He wants us to pursue?  Would this land help us, or hinder us as we seek to rescue more children?  Would you pray with us about this opportunity?

If God is in this, we trust He will provide the money in the required time; and if not, we will trust this is not His plan for us.

If God inspires you to give to this project, please let us know (matthewdavidpound@gmail.com)

This is the offer Faithful Heart received from Reach foundation:
Reach Foundation Land
Reach Foundation offers for sale 14+ Rai of land referenced by previous email land titles sent to Matthew Pound. This is an exclusive discounted price offered only to Faithful Heart Foundation for a specific amount of time to be arranged between Faithful Heart and Reach Foundation.

Sale Price:

Sale price is 2,215,000 Thai baht. The sale price is net to Reach Foundation.  All closing costs, including those normally paid by the seller, are to be paid by buyer.  This includes all due diligence costs, legal fees, transfer fees, taxes, real estate commissions (if any are owed) and any other fees associated with the completion of the sale of the property.

Buyer is encouraged to inspect the land and complete due diligence evaluation as deemed necessary.

Conditions of the sale:

Reach Foundation places no conditions on the buyer as to use of the land or the future sale of the property. Should Faithful Heart Foundation successfully complete this purchase transaction, it is free to use and to proceed in the best interest of the future vision of Faithful Heart Foundation.

We will be happy to show you the land and tell you what we know about the property.

General information:

Reach Foundation and its many stakeholders invested approximately 5.2 million baht in the purchase of this land.  This purchase was initiated in 2007.

Personal note:

This offer represents the sacrifice and prayers of hundreds of individual donors who through the years have contributed to the investment and vision that caused this land to be purchased. The stakeholder group, in effect, with the sale of this property to Faithful Heart Foundation, will realize the germination of that vision held dormant for these many years. This land was "prayer walked" with tears and passion and joy to help the plight of needy children giving them a hope and a future found in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our desire is that this sales price will mean several things.  It will be easier to raise the money for the initial purchase, allowing more resources to be available for development, and to possibility make farming the land more sustainable.

The land on the right is the land offered for sale, the canal forms a boundary.
It has not been cared for for years, so lots of overgrowth

The road access is in the bottom left corner, the line is the driveway access.  The land is 3 legal parcels, with separate titles for each.  The entire area inside the blue is the piece of land being offered (about 5.5 acres total). Thank you for your prayers and support! Love from Thailand--- Matt, Audrey, Ezra
